Most whale and dolphin tours depart from Puerto Colón. During these excursions, you’ll board a catamaran to explore Tenerife’s waters. Onboard, you can listen to their communication sounds with special equipment and learn about the local marine life from a guide. While sightings are common, they’re not guaranteed, as they depend on currents and weather.
It’s important to note that these tours are animal-friendly. Swimming with them is prohibited, and boats must maintain a safe distance. However, many tours allow you to swim in the open sea and, in some cases, snorkel.

How to Get to Las Américas
Tenerife has two airports, but Tenerife South Airport is much closer to Las Américas, about 19 kilometers away. It’s definitely the best option. If you find a great deal flying to Tenerife North Airport, don’t worry—you can easily get to Las Américas by bus. Just check your arrival time carefully because if you land at night, connections might be limited. A taxi from north to south usually costs around €100.
The best way to get around the island is by renting a car, giving you freedom to explore without relying on buses. Rental offices are available at both the airport and the port. I always recommend CICAR, as it’s reliable and works great in the Canary Islands.
If you don’t drive, you can always use Titsa buses. Take bus number 40, which stops at Columbus Station in about 30 minutes. From there, it’s a 10-minute walk. Download the Titsa App to check all the routes.
Where to Stay in Las Américas
There’s a wide variety of accommodations in Las Américas, one of the most popular tourist areas in Tenerife. You’ll find everything from luxury hotels to budget-friendly apartments or shared accommodations.
Since Las Américas is quite large, check your location carefully because some areas are hilly. Walking back after a relaxing day could be tiring. If you’re not renting a car, staying close to the beach is a good idea.
Overall, Las Américas is one of the best places to stay in Tenerife, offering great weather and proximity to the sea.
Where to Eat in Las Américas
The options are endless, from fancy restaurants to the beachside McDonald’s. There’s something for every budget. Popular spots include Taberna Tío Martín, Jardín de la Abuela, and the Italian restaurant First Love.
